Portfolio
This is my page for History and New Media class. It is an applied course in digital history that explores the adaptation of history to a digital environment. Although the central goal of the course is development of an original, digital history project of professional quality, the course will also examine “best practices” in digital history, the problems and possibilities inherent in digital history, and issues in information, technical, and aesthetic design. In end, the course will tackle look at what interactivity and games might bring to digital history. We will begin by thinking (and writing) about good history and then proceed to learning the tools and techniques to bring history into digital form. Since any digital work is a collaborative venture, I am prepared to both aid others and ask for help for myself.
"Whose tears are ever in my eyes, and whose sighs are ever in my ears"
– John Brown, 1858
Project
Currently, I am working on an animation film based on the life of John Brown (1800–1859), an antebellum abolitionist. I am an animator and a graduate student in Master of Interdisciplinary Studies, combining animation and history. Therefore, a historic foundation in my work is very important to me. For this class, I am planning to create a final project which will cover quotes by John Brown, giving their context and significance. I want to use these quotes in my film, as well as shed light on life of this important, but often misunderstood figure in American history.
